About Wesley Bow Guides

Close wilderness black bear experiences and memories is what you'll receive while up at WesleyBowGuides' camp.

We are a small, very small family run remote camp situated 121 kilometers or 75 miles from the town of Hearst, Ontario. Located in Northern Ontario's prime softwood forest with new and existing logging roads to access black bear foraging areas.  Our 2 Bear Management Areas are located essentially right beside one of Ontario's biggest provincial game preserves.  The Chapleau Preserve boasts 7000 squared kilometers or 2700 square miles of protected fur bearing animals including the black bear.  Prime location for mature black bears.  At Wesley Bow Guides camp, we strive to give archery bear hunts to seasoned and new hunters.  Our baited stands have proven successful for over 12 years now.  Spring bear hunts give ample opportunity to successfully harvest a spring black bear.  With 300 pound plus bears taken and seen in our local area.

We offer 7 day hunts with full home cooked meals and lodging for up to 8 hunters.  Our camp is small so no big numbers at camp.  Comfortable sleeping camp accommodations with a touch of modern hospitality and luxuries.  We have a shower house and sauna room for when the hunting day is finished.  If a hunter wants peace and tranquility in Ontario's forest this is where they will get it.  Wesley Bow Guides is as remote as it can get.  One can get a total blackout from the internet world as we have no wi-fi access.

All our stands are baited prior to hunters arrival to insure visits from our black bears.  Comfortable seats in all our stands which are situated 20 to 30 yards away from bait sites.  We can bring hunters to and from stand locations or guide you on a spot and stalk hunt as well.

Our camp is located right alongside the Fire River which runs into the Missinaibi River.  Camp is located roughly 24 kilometers (15 miles) from Brunswick lake and roughly 12 kilometers (8 miles) from Puskuta lake.  All water bodies boast walleye and northern pike fishing opportunities.

One can also take a hike up to our historical fire tower in old growth forest.  Built in 1950, it is a walk into the past.  There is ample opportunities with birds and animals or our northern softwood forest.

Wesley Bow Guides is happy to announce that we can host land based teaching/healing retreats.  The remoteness and peacefulness of our camp provides perfect opportunity for such retreats.  Retreats can include: sharing circles, daily smudge ritual, sauna baths, hiking excursions, archery lessons, hide tanning lessons, fire making, sweat lodge ceremony.  These retreats can be scheduled for three day up to six day retreats.  Our motto for retreats is to disconnect to reconnect.

We can also videograph your hunt if this is what one desires.  Skinning and quartering with hunters help.

"Wesley Bow Guides have provided some of my best bear hunting experiences to date.  From the expert guiding and abundance of game to the awesome food and great personalities. Wesley Bow Guides will not disappoint!"

- Neil Debassige host Fuel The Fire TV on Sportsman Channel Canada.

I have had the privilege to meet and connect with Richard Wesley at his camp on a couple of occasions.  The campground is a pristine and peaceful environment, the lodging is very organized, incredibly amazing and safe.  During the summer of June 2021, I reached out to  Richard regarding an oppurtunity to create and share with the youth, a land based retreat where they could learn from an experienced indigenous hunter, harvester, the culture and traditions that Richard carries.  The individuals who attended really enjoyed the teachings that Richard shared.  The youth especially loved the oppurtunity to be taught how to safely use and shoot a bow which was most memorable.  There were many laughs amongst the group and also a feeling of trust in Richard.  There was a wonderful experience to taste wild game that was harvested weeks before.  One of the most gratifying moments was when the youth shared that they felt free and were given the chance to disconnect from society and connect with the land (they did not want to leave, they wanted to stay).  It would be amazing to experience the Wesley Bow Guide Camp in the near future once again!  Richard is a very kind and gentle being, who's experiences resonate with the many people across the north.  Meegwetch Richard for allowing us into your extraordinary lifestyle!
